BATTLEFIELD 6 ANNOUNCEMENT AWES

EA and DICE officially revealed Battlefield 6 today, marking the franchise’s first mainline entry since Battlefield 2042. The cinematic trailer, released today, teases modern-era warfare featuring large-scale destruction, combined arms, and more. Multiplayer gameplay details are expected during a follow-up reveal on July 31. The game will reportedly be $70 for the base version, and $100 for the deluxe edition. It is currently rumored to release on October 10th, 2025.

THE FIX 🎬

The Battlefield franchise has seen better days and has struggled to find its footing over the last five years. With unpopular releases such as Battlefield V and Battlefield 2042, both receiving mixed reviews on launch, Battlefield 6 is in the hotseat.

However, with new information surfacing about the game over the last week and the cinematic trailer that dropped today, things are looking really good for the new title. We’re cautiously optimistic ourselves. Seeing features like destructible environments return, that nostalgic military world-on-edge vibe, and beautiful graphics, have us feeling like this is the entry that will turn the franchise back in the right direction.

Another thing worth noting, it is currently speculated that Battlefield 6 will only be available on next-gen consoles and PC. What does this mean? It could indicate higher graphical fidelity, more intense gameplay, new features, and larger maps, which are all historical pillars in the Battlefield franchise.

SPLITGATE 2 STRUGGLES CONTINUE

The Splitgate team announced that Splitgate 2 is returning to beta, acknowledging that the game launched too early and failed to meet community expectations. Major parts of the game—including progression, monetization, and map design—will be reworked to recapture the spirit of the original game, with more community involvement through playtests and feedback. To focus resources, the team is reducing roles and shutting down the original Splitgate servers next month, while continuing limited support for Splitgate 2 in the meantime.

THE FIX 🎬

The road ahead for Splitgate is uncertain and the 2nd game has certainly had its fair share of issues. It is worth acknowledging that the developers are aware and being proactive about righting the ship. The recent announcement from the creators have left a lot of players and creators feeling hopeful for the future of the game. Many players are nodding their support for the new direction and are appreciative of the transparency.

Where do things go from here? That is hard to tell as things change so quickly in today’s gaming climate. If the developers can capture the magic of the original game and continue carving out the niche portal arena FPS genre, we are optimistic that this game has a place at the table. If it continues down the mainstream pathway, we are not confident that it will be compelling enough to draw players in from other titans like Fortnite and Call of Duty.

ASSASSINS CREED SERIES GREENLIT BY NETFLIX

Netflix has officially greenlit a live-action Assassin’s Creed series, the first under its multi-year partnership with Ubisoft that began in 2020. Renowned showrunners Roberto Patino (Westworld, Sons of Anarchy) and David Wiener (Halo, Homecoming) will helm the project as executive producers, aiming for a “high-octane thriller” exploring the secret war between Templars and Assassins across pivotal historical eras, infused with themes of power, identity, and human connection. While casting, plot specifics, and a release date remain undisclosed, fan expectations are cautiously optimistic following recent successes in video-game adaptations.

THE FIX 🎬

Another video-game adaptation means studios across the world are noticing the power of storytelling and fandom being built around popular franchises. With series like Fallout (Amazon) and The Last of Us (HBO) having incredible success, it’s no wonder Netflix would want to add another adaptation to their belt.

While we believe the Assassin’s Creed series can be great, there are a few things worth noting. Netflix’s The Witcher was well received early on, but failed to meet fan expectations through later seasons. Showrunners and star Henry Cavil collided many times on the direction of the series which have ultimately plagued fan sentiment. David Wiener’s Halo TV series has also been heavily criticized by fans.

The formula on paper is not looking too great from where we’re sitting, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. Studios can learn from prior mistakes and we’re not sure how involved Ubisoft will be involved in the story writing of the series. If it’s anything like Fallout where Bethesda handcrafted a story that was richly lore-accurate and true to the games, we could be in for a real treat.
